Sometimes I feel like an anomaly within the historical costuming community. At least, the online community--the few I know in person are pretty chill, though with few exceptions, I get the impression that our similarities end there. Maybe I just haven't met enough people, but I get the impression that the trend is toward political conservatism, temperance, and old-fashioned values. I'm not saying that any of these are inherently bad, but I often get the vibe that I'm the only historical costumer who's a drunk, cigar smoking, queer identified, nihilist, atheist, libertarian, barefoot hippie. Is it really that bizarre that I have such an unconventional world view, yet love old clothes enough that I would dress like that everyday if I didn't love sleeping in more? Just a few days ago my (insane) aunt was going on about how "Gann used to be punk rock and now she makes Victorian dresses. What a 180!"
Is it really that surprising? It makes perfect sense. Maybe it would make more sense if I ever get around to my whimsy-fied 18th century crossdressing. I would make a hot 18th century adrogyne.
In other news I started my first hat today! Very excited.
In other other news, I think I have time to fit in another Dragon Con costume. Hogwarts class of 1898 is my plan, already working on the design, I wanna hit the ground running once I get that hat done. It's gonna be epic, and if it isn't done for DC, there's always Trip or Treat.

"Yeah. Because he's not on your side."
